2 Days at Sea

Monday 8 and Tuesday 9 October 2018

Nothing of note except for a surprise invitation to a luncheon with the Captain. It appears that we are in the top 20 frequent cruise travellers.

Very nice and interesting to see others who have achieved this level.

Bay of Islands New Zealand

This is a tendered port which is always fun if the sea is a little choppy. Cloudy sky and moderate wind so the tenders are lively.

We went ashore primarily to see the Waitangi Treaty Grounds. Being a Sunday there were many people not just off the ship but many New Zealanders.

Spent some time looking around then walked into town and returned to the ship. We timed our return during a slack period and didn't have to wait for a tender.

The place where the Treaty was signed in 1840 is universally recognised and is often mentioned as we in Australia attempt to properly recognise the original people of this country.

"Note this is written 2023 and a lot has happened since we were there."

Back to sea for two days until we arrive back in Sydney.

Auckland New Zealand

We've been here many times before but it still impresses me that this huge ships tie up almost in the centre of the city.

I don't recall if we did much more than go ashore, cross the street and went for a short walk around the shopping Mall.

All the usual things like eating and sleeping. Now some years later and I have no record of why we even went on this cruise.

The ship itself was interesting and impressive.

The destinations somewhat varied from previous years. We first sailed to New Zealand in January 2009.

All aboard and we are off to Bay of Islands.

Tauranga New Zealand

We've been here a number of times before. The ship is just a short walk into the town.

We decided to spend some of our "Cruise Credits" on a shore excursion.

We were taken to an area where there were many kiwifruit farms and a large processing facility. Learned that all the fruit is picked at one time and kept in a refrigerated shed where various batches are taken out and allowed to ripen as they are needed.

Of course there was the obligatory Gift Shop selling a bewildering range of souvenirs.

Back to the ship to recover and enjoy our dinner. We sailed back to sea for an overnight trip to Auckland.

At Sea Sailing to Tauranga

Thursday 4 October 2018

We woke, we ate, we attended some lectures, we ate again, we snoozed, we ate again and then went to bed. Such an exhausting day :-)
